Canelo And Triple G: The Fight We’ve Been Waiting For

2017 is turning out to be a great year for boxing.  We’ve already had an instant classic in the Joshua-Klitschko fight, we have Ward-Kovalev II just over the horizon, and now we’re finally getting the fight that everyone’s been clamoring for since the letdown of Mayweather-Pacquiao.  Following Canelo Alvarez’s beatdown of Julio Cezar Chavez Jr. Saturday night,  it was announced that Canelo and Gennady Golovkin will finally throw down in September.

Canelo proved who the true king of Mexican boxing is when he thoroughly beat down on Chavez.  Canelo took him to school for 12 rounds.  He taught the much taller man how to jab and then he moved inside and ripped gnarly uppercuts to the head and punishing hooks to the body.  All three judges ended up scoring the fight 120-108, a clean sweep for Alvarez.  Chavez had no answers for the king, and the king made him his jester.

Can the king of Mexican boxing go and conquer the eastern bloc though?  There’s a scary figure waiting on the other side of the Berlin wall, and Canelo will need all his men to take out Triple G.

Gennady Golovkin is an absolute destroyer.  His right hand takes men’s souls.  He had knocked out 23 straight opponents and 33 of 36 before his latest fight with Danny Jacobs. The 6-1 underdog was able to make it a fight against Triple G, and made him look more human than anyone has before.  Granted Jacobs was the much larger man, even giving up the opportunity to win the IBF title so that he could skip the same day weigh-in.

Did Canelo see something he liked out of the 35 year old’s performance?  I think he’s sees now as the perfect time to pounce, much like Floyd Mayweather waited until Manny Pacquiao got KO’d and lost a few steps to box him up.  He better be careful though.  Gennady may not have been able to knock out Jacobs, but Canelo is noticeably smaller than GGG.  You could see it when the two of them were in the ring together Saturday night., pub-1100396528751056, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

This is a great fight that boxing needs.  These two men are are both top 10 pound for pound boxers right now, and they are both true warriors with savage power.  There’s no way this fight won’t deliver and I’ll be expecting someone to end the night on the canvas. The smart money is on Gennady, but I don’t know I have a feeling Canelo is going to bring it to a new level come September.
