There’s something brewing in the horizon that could shake up the fight world. The two most polarizing figures in combat sports are strongly pushing to meet inside a boxing ring. The crazy thing is that one of these men is one of the greatest boxers of all time while the other has not boxed one single round professionally.
Talks of a boxing match featuring Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have been getting hotter and hotter by the day. The potential bout was even given a time and place when the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas was reserved for June 10th. You better believe that the entire combat sports world will be watching if MMA and Boxing collide, and that will create fortunes to be made.
UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor has taken the Mixed Martial Arts world by storm with his piston of a left hand. McGregor has shown that nobody can escape that cage without feeling the wrath of his killer left, but could he do that to Floyd Mayweather? Could the king of the octagon conquer the squared circle?
Floyd Mayweather has made a career out of making some of the best boxers in the world look lost. This man took on the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Canelo Alvarez, and escaped without a scratch. So from his perspective this fight must seem like a walk in the park. Floyd’s previous opponents are men that live and breath boxing. Since they were kids they have spent countless hours in the gym perfecting everything about the sweet science. And Floyd has done the same. So it seems to be a slap in the face to Floyd and the whole boxing world for Conor to think he has a shot against Money Mayweather.
Does Conor have a shot? Well like Freddie Roach said, “He throws, he throws hard, and he’s not afraid to throw”. When Conor throws in the octagon his hands find their home, but against Floyd they’re going to be left out in the streets. Floyd has perfected everything about defensive boxing. He doesn’t have to worry about four ounce gloves or a heavy kick to the legs, so his time has been spent perfecting how to roll with each punch, to use his feet to create safe dominant angles, and everything else. How does Conor plan on finding that man with his hands? If Oscar De Lahoya couldn’t do it and Manny Pacquiao couldn’t do it, then Conor better think of something new. Or just throw it all to the wind, and start throwing kicks after he gets boxed up for a few rounds.
This fight is a spectacle. There’s no doubt about that, but it also has a circus like feel to it. I suppose thats what happens when you have one of the biggest mismatches in boxing history and the entire world wants to see it. When there’s that much interest and money involved people will find a way to make the fight happen. This event is going to break every PPV record in the book, and the richest men in combat sports are going to get a lot richer.
